MANGO DAL


Mango dal is prepared in different ways in different regions. Summers are the best season for sour mangoes in the market. From the starting of the summer to the ending there are many recipes that can be prepared with mangoes. Mango dal is a simple recipe to prepare and can be prepared instantly. Mango dal is best served with boiled hot rice and ghee.


INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup red gram

  • 1 raw mango(chopped)

  • 2 medium sized onions(chopped)

  • 2 green chillies (chopped)

  • 3 cups water(approx)

  • 2 tbsp red chili powder

  • 1 ½ tbsp salt

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 2 tsp turmeric

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • ½ tsp fenugreek seeds(methi seeds)

  • A pinch of asafoetida

  • 10-12 curry leaves



INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Wash the dal thoroughly and add it to the pressure cooker.

  2. Now add the chopped onion, green chillies, raw mango 2 ½ cups of water, close the lid and cook it on medium high flame.

  3. Once 4 whistles have popped, switch off the stove.

  4. Once the pressure is out and open the lid.

  5. Check if the dal is cooked, if the dal is grainy, light the stove on, add salt and mash the dal till it is a coarse paste.

  6. Place a kadai on the stove , add some oil,cumin, mustard seeds, methi seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves.

  7. Add the tampered phope to the dal and mix it well.

  8. Mango dal is ready to be served, it is best served with boiled rice.



NOTE:

  1. Do check the salt and add according to your tastes and preferences.

  2. The consistency of dal can be tampered according to your preference.
