ARATIKAYA PERUGU PACHHADI

Raw banana curd chutney is a simple but delicious dish. Raw banana is known as aratikaya in telugu, kela in hindi. 


Aratikaya perugu pachhadi can differ from place to place. In my house we usually use tender or a little ripe bananas which can not be used to make any other dishes. I used a boiler because bananas are too tender to be cooked in a pressure cooker. 


Aratikaya perugu pachhadi or raw banana curd chutney can be served with rice, idly, dosa or chapati. The consistency of chutney depends on how much curd we mix or how tender/ripe the bananas are. If you prefer loose chutney, add more curd to it. I prefer loose chutney with tiffins and thick chutney with rice.

SERVES: 3-5 members


INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 raw banana

  • 4 green chillies

  • 2 tsp coriander seeds

  • 2 tsp cumin seeds 

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp black gram

  • 1 tsp chana dal

  • 3 tbsp of curd

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 3 g tamarind or 1tsp tamarind paste

  • 4 garlic cloves



INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Cut the banana into 2 pieces, add them into a boiler, 400ml water and let them cook for 15 min.

  2. check them by poking a fork in the middle to see if the banana is cooked, keep them aside and let them cool down

  3. Now place a pan on the stove, add 2 tbsp of oil to it.

  4. Once the oil is hot add 4 green chillies to it and let them roast on medium flame.

  5. Add 2 tsp coriander seeds, 2 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1tsp black gram, 1 tsp chana dal and let them roast for a minute.

  6. Now switch off the stove, transfer the roasted ingredients to a blender and keep it aside to cool down

  7. Now drain the water, peel the skin off the bananas and add them into a blender.

  8. Add 5 g tamarind or 2 tbsp tamarind paste, 4 garlic cloves, 1 tbsp salt to the blender and blend all the ingredients into a paste.

  9. Now transfer the blended paste into a bowl.

  10. Add 3 tbsp of curd to it and mix thoroughly with a spoon.

  11. The raw banana curd chutney/aratikaya perugu pachadi is ready to be served.
